DROPPED OUT OF LIST IN 2022

2021 MARKET UPDATE: THE LAST LAUGH'S ON BATMAN

The regular edition of this book is rocketing in high grade! Even the less-loved variant cover isn't doing badly.

There is a lot of love for Batman Who Laughs, and fans believe he will one day appear in a DC movie...

Recent sales:

  • 9.8 $775 regular / $280 variant
  • 9.6 $195 / $120
  • 9.4 $175 / $95
  • 9.2 $160 / $50

IF YOU BOUGHT MY RECOMMENDED GRADE LAST YEAR:

Here's the bottom line.

  • CGC 9.8 2020 $475
  • LAST SALE $775
  • PERCENT CHANGE +63%

2020 MARKET UPDATE: WHO'S LAUGHING NOW?

It was hot... and now it's not. Say no more. I doubt this book will be on the list next year.

2019 MARKET UPDATE: NEW ON THE 100 HOT COMICS LIST!

Teen Titans 12 is a new departure for the Caped Crusader.

The concept of an evil Batman is not a completely new one, though most of the past incarnations have involved a good version under the influence of a Batman villain.

This Earth-22 is the real McCoy. Batman Who Laughs was created when Earth-22 Batman lost control of his temper and strangled the Joker to death.

Gas emerging from the Joker's body infected Batman and turned him into an anti-hero.

There have been so many reboots of the Batman back story that this feels like a breath of fresh air... Or maybe that should be gas...

Prices have been rising briskly, and Batman Who Laughs now has a standalone series.

What to Invest In

There are regular and variant editions of Teen Titans 12 (2017 edition), plus a convention edition published in 2018.

There are also second prints from 2017 and 2018. It's not clear yet whether the second prints will become valuable over time, but certainly books like Batman: the Killing Joke are far less valuable than the first edition in most later printings.

As usual for a modern book, unless there is a compelling reason to avoid the top grade, I always recommend CGC 9.8 with white pages.

The price rise of this book mimics another of the modern Gotham classics on the 100 Hot Comics list, Detective Comics #880, which is now approaching $800 in CGC 9.8.

Here are recent sales of the standard edition.

  • CGC 9.0 $93 (!!)
  • CGC 9.2 $80
  • CGC 9.4 $95
  • CGC 9.6 $175
  • CGC 9.8 $335

Teen Titans 12 Variant Edition

Unusually, the variant edition is actually less valuable than the regular edition, probably because the cover image is not as interesting.

Recent sales:

  • CGC 9.2 $70
  • CGC 9.6 $100
  • CGC 9.8 $235

Teen Titans 12 2018 Convention Edition

The final edition is the Convention edition from 2018, which features a foil cover.

Here are recent sales of the Convention edition.

  • CGC 9.4 $70
  • CGC 9.6 $66
  • CGC 9.8 $150
  • CGC 9.9 $400
  • CGC 10.0 $1,100
