I was expecting an offer of around $16AU for each of the comic books I had and I was disappointed to learn that Ashley was not interested in buying them and they were only worth about $3each.

What was the nice surprise was the awesome, friendly, kind, QUICK and informative email response I got back.

Knowledge is more valuable these days and that's what I got back along with link referrals for even more tips on selling my Fad's Comics.

Though my collection was not of interest, Sell My Comics was forthcoming as to another venue to try (Craigslist) as well as a range in value.

Though my list of comics were not of interest, I was not only advised as to why my collection was given a pass, but was given an idea of the range in value of what had been submitted. I work at a little rural library and we received a huge donation of comics of which we had no idea about value or what to do with them. Although Sell My Comics Books did not end up purchasing my collection, I still found them to be very helpful. Ashley C responded to my initial email, on a Saturday, whithin a few short hours. I had a lot of 174 comics, spanning 23 years, without a single issue missing. Ashley gave me an idea of what it was worth and precise instructions on how to sell them locally (174 vintage comics is a shopping nightmare).

While any given collection may or may not contain something of high value, the responses from Ashley are fully worthwhile for a fair appraisal and include value estimates and recommendations for selling even comics that sellMyComicBooks may not have interest in themeselves.

I was looking to sell some comics fast and found this website to be helpful. I did the recommended quick list and sent it in on the form on the web page. Took about two days for a response. My comic collection was not worth much and they gave some advice on options of where to sell (garage sale ect) and a price point ($1 or $2). I am thankful I did not spend a bunch of time (like taking pictures or going in person to a comic shop) on a low value items.

It was a pretty lengthy process requiring providing a list of all my books and high-definition images of specific issues that they wanted to see. In the end, I did get an appraisal and advice for selling my collection on craigslist. However, they do want you to buy their book on how to sell comic books on Craigslist. The big plus is that doing all this made me really look at all my books and get them organized. We'll see if I have any success on Craigslist.

I was actually fairly certain you wouldn't take what I had, so it was disappointing but not unexpected. What I didn't expect was your suggestions on how I could sell them and what I could expect to get, that was a real bonus.

Honest and Fair Comic Book Appraisal? My ^$&. This free appraisal was a joke and to top it all off was a slap in face. Truly a joke and bet they won't even publish this response! Why do I say all of this? Well for starters even eBay prices for individual comics can tell me I've gathered up a valuable collection... though done so through individual comic processes of purchasing individually it should still, show capital investment should and will overall become gain in the end and no longer be Marginalized by individualism vs collection! Remember individualism already came from that stock in the first place! But what did this appraiser do? Put it right back into individualism. If you don't know what you're doing, I appraise you should stay out of the business! I do not recommend this site or its free appraisals.

I sent in the same list to another website, where all they sent back was, "we're not interested."

If you follow the instructions on how to submit your comics then you'll get a quick response. I figured I'd have to wait awhile for my email to get a response but nope just as quick as I sent the list I got my appraisal! So much easier than going to a comic store. While remodeling an investment property, I found a box of old comics in the attic about 10 or 15 years ago. I am cleaning up things and thought I’d get rid of stuff just sitting around. Although they were not able to purchase my books, I was very happy with the service. Yes, it took a few days for them to respond, but that's expected given that I gave them a list (several books) to review.
Their answer fell in line with all of my previous research and they suggested a sales avenue that I hadn't considered.
Very easy, respectful and pleasant to work with. Not to overlook that the very positive benefit...no charge!!!

I am not a comic collector. My wife was a reader. When it came time to sell our comics, SMC was there to help. The process of creating a list was quick and painless. A few follow up emails with questions and some simple pictures and we had a fair offer on some of the books in the collection.

Started this with absolutely zero knowledge or experience anything comic related. I was actually given these to sell at the best possible price with the proceeds going to a much deserving, struggling single mother who's world was turned upside leaving her with absolutely nothing trying to raise 3 children on her own right after having the 3rd one. As you can imagine the pressure is weighing heavily on me but I can honestly say now after contacting these guys I feel 100% comfortable and confident I can sell these and get everything I can out of them!! Many thanks to Ash and his team at SellMyComicBooks. I was curious as to what my comic book collection would be appraised for given their age and Ash was able to provide that.

The steps and appraisal process were very easy to follow.

If I had a question, Ash responded promptly.

I did not accept his offer for my comics but I now have a better idea with what I have.

Plus, I did get the opportunity to go back in time to the mid 70s to mid 80s as I was retrieving the comic books that Ash requested that I scan! LOL

I can safely say, if or when I plan to sell, Ash will be at the top of my list.

Detailed guidance with a helpful attitude makes for good business management. Even though Ashley was not interested in the comics she took the time to appraise them and tell me where to sell them.

Every one else (except TED) just answered "not interested" leaving the pottential seller in a black hole.

Bottom line Ashley knows her stuff, is willing to share expert experienced guidance and will help whether she's interested or not.

Whilst we did not ultimately conclude a deal this was mainly because of my sentimental attachment (having collected the comics over the past 60 years).

I am an older guy with some comics from the 60s. I thought I might start to unload them but I did not want to go to a lot of trouble with grading and such. Ash made getting an appraisal and offer for my comic collection easy and straightforward. In particular, all his instructions were very clear and easy to both understand and follow. I was selling from Canada, so it involved a bit of back and forth, which was always pleasant and professional and respectful. I inherited over 500 comic books that my father had begun buying new in the 1990s. He had bagged, boarded, and boxed them, then stored them in the basement. No one in the family knew why, and now that he has dementia we probably never will.

I logged every issue and sent the "quick list" to Ashley at SellMyComicBooks.com. The next day he asked for photos of one potentially valuable issue. It turned out that it wasn't worth his time, but he provided a fair value for it that I might get on eBay, and also pointed me to Craig's List as a possible venue for sale, along with an overall value for the entire collection.

I've decided to take my chances on eBay. The advice I received was detailed, honest, and very much appreciated!

I have had some good but also some bad experiences with comic grading on eBay and tried Ashley's service and found it extremely helpful. He pointed out some flaws in a few purchases I was considering as well as gave me guidance on the true price to try and pay instead of the often inflated prices that were being requested. Super guy! Although we weren’t able to come to an agreement at this time I never felt pressured to sell and will definitely return to him when I do. I have hundreds of silverage comics that have been sitting in a box for 50 years and had no clue where to start. Now I have a starting point I’ll entertain other offers but if they are close in price I will contact these guys before I sell because they were kind enough to evaluate my collection.

But, that's OK as I have the option of not taking it. It's also OK as they're taking the risk and they have to make money as well.

I appreciated the response to the selections that were listed, but would have liked more options on the payment methods. Not everyone uses PayPal and things of that nature that takes away from the offer. Also, I felt that I was being low-balled in some respects. Maybe I will just keep them for the nostalgia that is in all of them. I like reading my Mad and Cracked magazines from time to time, also.

We live in a time where every company talks about how important customer service is and how great the service is they provide. I have found that in most cases this couldn't be further from the truth. That's why it was such a surprise to see how great Sell My Comics service was. I received very fast response with a financial estimate, and some helpful advice on how to sell my (one) comic issue on eBay.

I'm not an expert, and I thought I'd receive an official comic book grading (1-10) to use when putting it up for sale. As I cannot use the appraisal in my eBay listing of the book, I don't see how it helps me in getting to sell it. However, I appreciate the professional appraisal, and at least now I know how much money roughly I should get for it.

I made my comic list according to the instructions on the website, adding years or other info like Foil Cover, or signed and certificated edition, to assist Ash in his evaluation of my collection. Although they were not of high value at least Ash confirmed this and put my mind at ease now when I sell them on Ebay and the realistic price I should be looking for.

Going into all this, I had a realistic expectation that I was not about to make a fortune on my comic book collection. I have several 1980s Archie comic books, and was ready to part with them. Finally went through my comic books that I bought while growing up but wasn’t sure if I wanted to sell. I sent Ashley my list and he responded within a day. After sending him pictures of some of the books, he was able to give me a quote for my entire collection, about 1,350 comics. For a few reasons, I decided not to sell at this time (one of them being my 28 yr old son finally wants to start reading them - go figure!). Ashley was excellent to deal throughout the entire process and I would recommend him to anyone. I’ll definitely contact him in the future if I ever decide to sell.

Sell My Comic Books appraised my comic book list at least 10 times. If I had to make an estimate of the total amount of comics being appraised, it must have been over 1,700 comics. Sell My Comic Books always got back to me with an appraisal within 1 to 3 days. I can say that these guys know their comics.

When I first submitted my list, they said "extensive collections of mostly modern comics are seldom worth shipping to us. If you will consider splitting them up, then I will request pics of the ones we are interested in buying."

I said I would do that if I decided to sell, but I am still not sure I'm ready to sell my old collection.

The collection is mostly from the 80's and 90's. I mentioned a few in the collection they have listed as the most valuable from their eras, including Secret Wars 8, A Death in the Family 3, and Incredible Hulk 340 among others.

They requested pictures of those, but seemingly did not look at the list yet because they didn't include any others they wanted to see (even as there were others on their most valuable comics list).

Directions on taking pictures wasn't given initially, which required me to go back and retake pictures of both front and back outside of the plastic. Not the biggest deal but a bit of a time waster.

They were not specific at all with their valuation of the books and ended up offering less for that whole group than what I've seen listed online as the value of one of them (not the top sale of them but general value. I asked for a per title valuation, but they just said $20-40 retail each with one being worth more, not saying which ones would be closer to 20 or which might be closer to 40. They then asked me to send my list again.

I sent it and they requested several more titles (actually, they listed some I'd already sent pictures of in the list of pics they wanted me to send). I went ahead and sent the pictures despite what seemed like an undervaluation of the first batch. No specific valuation was given on what I sent, instead they offered $500 for the entire collection (not just the ones they requested pictures of but a few hundred books with several number 1 books in it, a number of valuable first appearances, a couple signed copies, etc.)

There was no advice for selling and no serious appraisal of the books. I could actually get more selling to a local comic shop, where you definitely sell well-under value.

They responded to emails pretty quickly. They did make an offer. They did say they would pay for shipping, but we never got to the point to seeing what that would look like. When I passed on the offer and thanked them for their time, they asked for a review.

Hopefully, this is helpful for someone.

Thank you for taking the time to write a detailed review. I'd like to reply to a couple of points.

First, the instructions on taking photos was clearly written. You just didn't read them. When you sent photos of the books in bags, I had to copy and paste the paragraph from our original email (which we bold out because people don't read instructions) on removing books from bags and boards and taking front and back photos.

Second, you didn't send the list. You just sent a short bullet point list of the key issues.

Third, your books are low grade for the era. Copper age keys which retail in under $100 are VG-FN range. Looking on eBay to see what NM ones are being offered for is not very instructive, or a fair comparison.

Finally. We don't charge for our time. If (as in this case) a deal isn't done, then the effort is pro bono. Had you asked for a follow up on how to sell your collection yourself, then I would have advised you to list them on Craigslist or eBay, with specific advice.

People who don't like the news that they are not sitting on a goldmine tend to be the harshest critics of our free service. I don't find that fair or balanced, but I wish you well with your collection.

My only regret is that I did not find this site before my husband and I started our process of dealing with our comics. My husband and I have over 27 boxes of comics that we want to find a good home for.


My husband had spent the summer going through the comics and deciding what we could let go of so we can make more room or just have less stuff in case we decide to move to a smaller place.

I had gotten to the phase where I was just going to try to sell them on eBay because I did not know what else to do with COVID and our local comic book shops not open.

When I was doing research to educate myself on selling our comics (we bought them to read and not as investments). I came across this site.

I liked what I say but I have physical limitations that do not allow me to sort all 27 boxes of comics in the normal way.

Ashley Cotter-Cairns worked with me to come up with something that would allow me to sell some of my comics to him.

Also being a nerd I did a cost-benefit analysis of selling my comics via this site and doing it myself by getting them CGC rated and selling them on eBay.

I can tell you that in the long run, you will get a fair price for your comics. This is based not on opinion but on cold hard data.

I can not recommend Ashley Cotter-Cairns and Sell My Comic Books enough.

My parents recently brought me a box of my old, childhood comic books. I tried to do some research on my own, but found the process a bit overwhelming to navigate as a novice. I knew that I had a few comics that were worth some money, but not an extensive collection or anything super valuable. I watched Ashley's videos and found them extremely informative, but was still on the fence as to whether it was worth my time and his to submit a list for appraisal. I did end up doing so and his response was very gracious. While my collection was not valuable enough to warrant a transaction, he provided very useful feedback as to how he would recommend selling them privately and why. Well they were truly abit uptight when it came to the offer in which I received from this coming book store and I understand that they don't know me and I don't know them but I didn't sell anything to them because I know for a fact that I can sell elsewhere especially what I have for sale I didn't buy them from eBay or Facebook I bought them from (another website) so they are coming from someone who I have had numerous dealing with and well I have had them for about a month or two and to be offered much less for the three books I just bought them from these people and they were truly very much biased by there offer and I think it is because my last name isn't Smith or Adams!

So they offered me a super low offer considering the fact that I have for sale a BLACK MAGIC VOL 2 #1, AMAZING SPIDER-MAN #252 NM CONDITION, AMAZING SPIDER-MAN #252 NM CONDITION, AQUARIUM #46,#57, THE LEGEND OF AQUAMAN #1, CAPTAIN ACTION #1,#2,#3 BROTHERS POWER THE GEEK #1,#2 CAPTAIN MARVEL #15, BATMAN #212, THE MIGHTY THOR #126 VF+ CONDITION,AS WELL AS POGO POSSUM #10 NM CONDITION. SO I THINK FOR $250.00... FOR EVERYTHING THAT IS LISTED HERE ALONG WITH MARVEL TEAM UP COMICS AROUND #12 FOR SALE. SO LOOK IF YOU MAKE A OFFER DON'T BE DEGRADING AND TELL ME TO TRASH EVERYTHING ELSE I HAVE OR SELL EVERYTHING ON CRAIGSLIST THAT IS THE PART THAT WAS A BIT DEGRADING BUT OTHER THAN THAT IF YOU SERIOUSLY NEED THE MONEY GO FOR IT IF NOT TRY (another website).

When buying comics for retail prices, you should not be surprised when a dealer offers you wholesale prices.

I'm sorry you were disappointed with the offer you were given, but really this has nothing to do with your name, location, origin or anything other than the fact that your comics were ones we determined to be worth $250 to us wholesale.

Thor #126 was FN, ASM 252 9.0 (it even has the dealer sticker describing it as such). I wish you luck selling your collection, Mr. LaMattina.

I had some old comic books (maybe 100) that I found in the attic. They were the kind that 10 yr old girls might like, not super hero things. I figured they weren’t worth much but just wanted to make sure so I listened to their videos and sent my list in. As I figured, they weren’t worth a lot but Ashley told me exactly why and was very informative. She also told me how to try to sell them myself, where to try to sell them and for how much. I was very impressed and her expertise was much appreciated. I highly recommend!

First thank you for your time. You did respond within a few days usually sometimes the same day. Your free offer to appraise comics could be useful but you have a habit of ignoring the questions presented to you. I asked the same questions during each conversation and your group did not respond until you finally decided to present an offer. You only focus on what you are after for pricing and nothing else. Your communications are extremely short and mechanical. You website lists the top dollar sales for comics for each era (which should be a good gauge on their value) but your offer after all was said and done was extremely "LOW BALL". I have actually sold one of the comics (GI Joe #21) already for more than what you offered for all of them (9 comics). I contacted a CGC presser and they were more than anxious to discuss a more reasonable value for the books due to their obviously MINT condition. I recommend that everyone contact a CGC presser for true and honest second appraisals prior to selling anything here. Their pressers will charge you for "official" grading if that is what you want ($25.00 I think a book) but it is worth it for HIGH Quality Comics valued over say $100.00. Just do not expect your books back fast because they have a process they need to work towards. But they will also give you a real good idea of the comics actual value if you have scans you can provide them.
SMC will not tell you the value of each book. They will only offer you a price for only what they want with no explanation of how they come to that number. And offer no advice about the rest of the collection they are not interested in. This site is not helpful except to people that found something and want to "off-load" their finds. My advice to everyone is to trust but VERIFY PRICING before your sell here. Get a SECOND OPINION before you sell here. You will not regret it. Remember this site is in the business to make a profit off of you not here to help you. Take care, stay safe and stay healthy. Thank you again for your help (2 Stars) but it was actually a big waste of my time. I would give 1 Star but you did answer some of my questions so that would not be fair.

If we are really going to be fair about this, then I really believe you are disappointed with the offer you got, not the service you received.

CGC pressers are a business like any other. Of course they want to sell YOU on their benefits without pointing out any potential drawbacks. Mint condition? Not even close. I hope you didn't waste your time and money on that dead end.

As for not being much help, I think the other feedback we have received from hundreds of people -- most of whom did not do business with us -- speaks for itself.

So let's be fair. Your communication with us was not without its challenges. Of course, that will never be public. I have a signature in my emails mentioning that we will call out abusive communication when we receive it. I chose not to delete this comment from you, even though it's borderline. All the best.

These guys (mainly Ash) really are the best!
When it comes to buying comics (particularly raw books) it can be quite daunting as we all think we can grade books well but the reassurance of having these guys on hands for honest appraisals makes the risk of buying a dud less likely.

They turn around requests quickly and are always on hand to offer great advice. I will soon sign up to some of their courses which i am looking forward too.

I was hoping to get an estimated value range for the 45 comics I submitted. But instead I got "ask $250 on Craigslist and take $150". So I asked if I could yet again get a value range for the individual books (what I assumed was the point of the site). The response I got was "it would be a waste of your time".

The form walks you through what to do and is easy to fill out.

Ashley contacted me in less than 24 hours via email, walked me through what to do and overall was very helpful, honest and friendly. Excellent advice!!

On top of all that, the website has lost of helpful information on grading (including professional grading), how to buy and sell and much more.

As i am someone who’s knows little about comics and where I live not having the greatest access to people do either other than google search.
Ashley and his services made what could seem pain staking rather easy.
Also he has videos that are educational that have helped me narrow things down. Very helpful.
Always reply’s in less than 24 hrs sometimes with in minutes.

I was extremely satisfied with this website and my comic book appraisal. I know NOTHING about comic books and had only one to sell. The website was packed with valuable information and helpful suggestions.

Since I had only one comic book, which turned out to not be worth the millions I was hoping for, I was surprised that they responded to my appraisal request at all. And not only did they respond to it, but they included even more helpful suggestions on how to go about selling it elsewhere.

I was so satisfied with my experience here, that I wish I had more comic books to sell! I am very grateful to them for offering so much valuable information.......for FREE!

Lets be honest the internet is often black hole so it is great to meet people like Ashley out there running a good business with integrity and honesty. I didn't expect much for my comics, did my research and the answer they gave me was in line with where my research had pointed me. Right there Ashley has my full trust.

The process is easy make a list and send it to them, They got back to me in less than a day. I highly recommend using the the appraisal service, reading the articles, really a gem of a site for the comic fan.

Anyone who's ever kept a box of old comics in their basement, believes they're worth a mint.
That's true in memories they hold, but I needed professionals to set me straight on actual money they could bring as I try to declutter.
A quick email to Ash - on a weekend - saw a rapid reply. He was able to guide my hand, and give me sound suggestions on what to do next with my box of memories.
Those old comics aren't worth a mint, in seems, but the guidance was invaluable to me.

Quick to respond and worked well with images/JPG's sent. Unfortunately the offer price was too low and I fortunately enough had a local comic shop offer me over $200 more for my book. I am certain it has to do with not having the book in hand or there might have been a better offer extended. I will suggest this site to others and use them in the future myself. Sellmycomicbooks.com is one of my go to places to get the latest on what comics are of value in the current month. They always keep it straight forward and are prompt in response when inquiries are needed (1-2) days. Most people tend to get offended and think they are the only ones on the planet and that everything is now, now, now when realistically that is petty and a waste of energy. Sellmycomicsbooks.com is for sure a site that can be trusted to pay you what they say they will pay you. I was very pleased with the rapid response. I sent a listing of over 200 comics in my collection, and they immediately responded by asking me to send photos of the front and back of several of those comics. After doing so, they responded with an offer within 24 hours, and it was competitive with what I had found on my own.

I got a far from fair offer if that was my appraisal it was not a good one because I got better offers from regular comic book stores

Editor's reply: Obviously not everybody is pleased with the prices we offer. There are a lot of moving parts in an appraisal, including a gap between what a customer grades their comics at, "selling prices" (usually eBay asking prices, which are not a reflection of actual sales at all), and an assessment by us of what we have in stock, how long it will take to sell when we do buy, and margins.

I'm happy that you got a better price elsewhere. However, I think the rating would be fairer if you assessed the service you received, rather than the outcome of the sale. All the best.

I did not end up selling to Ash, but I really appreciate how he does business. Everything was very upfront, I felt no pressure and his offers were fair. He gave me his honest assessment of the condition of my books and which ones are in demand, and did not seem to mind when I chose to work with another dealer. I will certainly come back next time I have stuff to sell.

I was told that my comic was/is decent and worth $30 to$60. But my comic is a Key Issue DC the Green Lantern no.87 in F/VF condition probly a 6.8 to a 7.3 grade. And I sold it for over $400 easily. So not sure why these guys would not want to purchase or even give me a good appraisal maybe just didnt take the time to actually appraise it correctly? So 3 starts for them.

I'm getting divorced and these have to go
Don't let the facts get in the way of a good story..

I'm not sure but that doesn't seem too honest. I like to be up front and I would never lie to someone just to get a buck. Guess I'd never make a great capitalist.

Seems like I also hit at a busy time as after a week I got a generic quote of 10 to 40 dollars a book. Most prices we found were 5 to 15 with some exceptions. Oh well, not everyone can have good luck. I was also thinking it was a buying situation and not a tossed off quote. Ebay and buying the Sell On Craiglist ebook seems cheesy advice, but I am happy to get some feedback. Thanks.

After watching the videos and making my list to specifications and hoping for the best ( as I had some very old sci-fi and super hero comics,) Ashley gave me the bad news that they weren’t able to make me an offer, BUT they didn’t leave me there- they gave me professional advice on how to get the most for what I had and the next few steps to follow. I inherited a comic collection from a renter that left town suddenly. Knowing absolutely nothing about valuing comics and researching all 149 of them, I decided to attempt the free appraisal. I was pleasantly surprised at the prompt replies and tips I received for selling the collection.
